The remarkable mini #teamILUX, Hemingford Colts U9 Yellow made their debut on the international stage last weekend (3-4 June) when they took part in the Europa Cup tournament held in the iconic PSG stadium in Paris.
The annual competition gives junior teams from around the world, the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play at the 48,000 seater stadium, home to Paris Saint-Germain.
Each of the teams had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a professional footballer, lining up in the player’s tunnel and taking part in the tournament on the full-size pitch. All then received medals with their fans and supporters cheering from the stands.
Team Coach Mark Fowler said:
“The team is immensely grateful for the opportunity to play at the PSG stadium, a ground graced by some of the greatest football legends in history. The electrifying atmosphere, vibrant energy, and camaraderie among teams from diverse corners of the world fueled their determination to deliver nothing short of their absolute best.”
Team Manager Tim Lowe said:
“We couldn’t have done this without our supporters. Their encouragement has been the driving force that spurred the team onward and upward. The players represented their community and nation with the ultimate goal of making their supporters proud.”
James Tilbury, CEO of ILUX said: “As a grassroots team, the children faced tough competition from across the globe. The journey this team has been on is a testament to their unwavering spirit and determination.
Seeing them out in the fresh air, playing and smiling together, pulling together as a team, was an absolute pleasure. For me, that was more than enough of a return on our sponsorship.”
