Overview
The role is pivotal to the daily operation of the business ensuring that our customers’ requirements are met accurately and efficiently. We need someone to perform the role of Field Service Engineer working for both our Service Desk and Projects departments. The key to this position is presentation, communication and expertise, as being the ‘face of the business’ to customers and being faced with immediate challenges will require clear management of people and situations. You will be based at our head office but expected to travel to our customer sites around the UK. Company pool vehicles are available for use. Overnight stays and out of hours work will be required occasionally but in return we offer a fun and flexible approach to work. When there is no requirement to attend site, you will be based in our office on standby and assist in any remote support tasks that are awaiting attention.

Key Tasks

  • End user and infrastructure support of the following: (remote and on-site)
    • Desktop computers
    • Notebook computers
    • Mobile devices
    • Installed Microsoft applications
    • Other installed applications with vendor support
    • Active Directory additions, deletions and changes of users
    • Local services and checks (e.g. Antivirus, Firewall, Print Spoolers, Office Add-ins etc.)
    • Networking (LAN/WAN) (IPV4, Gateways, DHCP etc.)
    • Installing approved applications including non-Microsoft applications (with vendor support)
    • Drive mappings
    • Shared printers
    • Uninterruptible Power supplies
    • Server hardware diagnosis and vendor repairs
    • Server restarts where necessary
  • Collect IT equipment from customer sites and return it to our office
  • Deliver, install and configure IT equipment at customer sites
  • Perform problem diagnosis and seek to resolve immediately
  • Perform inductions for users on the essentials of operating IT equipment in accordance with pre-defined induction plans
  • Provide basic training to users on how to use equipment and systems
  • Work amongst our project team being involved in system implementations and site deployments
  • Basic cabling repairs (Cat 5/6)
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation relating to tasks in our management system

  • (Advanced) Microsoft Windows desktop editions (installation, configuration, deployment, administration and troubleshooting)
  • (Advanced) Microsoft Windows Server (administration and troubleshooting)
  • (Advanced) Microsoft Exchange Server (administration and troubleshooting)
  • (Advanced) Microsoft Office
  • (Advanced) Networking (Wi-Fi, LAN, WAN, VPN, DHCP, DNS, Internet)
  • (Advanced) Backup Systems
  • (Advanced) Printers
  • (Advanced) Mobile devices and operating systems
  • (Intermediate) Telecoms, particularly VoIP and the specification, deployment and maintenance of VoIP systems
  • (Basic) knowledge of cabling, specifically terminating and testing
  • Always demonstrate an empathetic and confident demeanour 
  • Always remain calm offering reassurance that you will work to resolve issues
  • Ability to train and explain concepts to users
  • Full, clean UK driving license
